the impact of child tax rebates and credits
With a new report out from DataHaven, we have further proof that Child Tax Credits work to lift families out of poverty and have a significant impact on the financial well-being of families with children. That’s why I was proud to support a budget here in Connecticut that put forward a state Child Tax Credit to ensure families with children received additional money when they need it most.
According to DataHaven, “The percentage of Connecticut adults who say they did not have enough money to buy food has nearly doubled during the past year, from its comprehensive statewide well-being survey.” “The significant drop in food insecurity observed by DataHaven and national researchers in 2021, especially among households with children, suggests that the expiration of the federal Child Tax Credit may be among the most significant drivers behind this year's sharp increase.”
We have incredible organizations here in Branford helping crush hunger. Last Friday I stopped in to check on The Branford Food Pantry. Wendy took me around the place and assured me they have the resources to support anyone who needs extra help.
